Possible Causes

Clogged drain pump filter or impeller, Obstructed drain hose, Failed drain pump motor, Foreign object lodged in pump housing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer. Water may spill when opening the pump area; keep towels and a shallow pan ready.

  • Access the drain pump: On many GE Profile front-load models, remove the lower front access panel (usually a few screws at the bottom). Locate the drain pump and clean-out (if equipped).
  • Drain residual water: Use the small drain hose (if present) or slowly loosen the pump clean-out cap to let water drain into a pan. Tighten and empty the pan as needed until water flow stops.
  • Clean the filter and impeller: Remove the pump filter/clean-out cap fully. Remove lint, coins, buttons, and other debris. Reach in carefully to feel the impeller and ensure it spins freely.
  • Inspect the drain hose: Check the hose from the pump to the standpipe or sink for kinks, clogs, or ice (in cold locations). Detach and flush the hose if needed.
  • Test operation: Reassemble, plug in the washer, and run a drain & spin cycle. If the pump hums but does not move water, or is silent and the code returns, the drain pump motor is likely failed and should be replaced with a GE-compatible pump assembly.
