Possible Causes
Failed user interface board, Stuck or shorted keypad, Loose ribbon cable between UI and main board, Moisture intrusion into control panel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before removing the control console.
- Reset the control: Unplug for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in. Try to enter a different cycle or run a diagnostic (if available in your model’s manual).
- Check for stuck buttons: Press each button individually to feel for proper travel. If any button feels stuck or does not click, the UI may be damaged.
- Inspect connections: Remove the control console cover and verify the ribbon cable and harness between the UI and main control are fully seated and not damaged.
- Dry out moisture: If there are signs of condensation or detergent residue, gently dry the area and clean with a slightly damp cloth (power disconnected). Allow to dry completely before reassembly.
- Replace UI board: If E47 persists, replace the user interface/control panel assembly with a GE-compatible part. If the new UI does not resolve the issue, the main control board may also be faulty.
