Washer makes a grinding or scraping noise when the drum turns.

Safety first: Unplug the washer before inspection.

• Check drum interior: Inspect for loose baffles or screws and tighten or replace as needed.
• Spin by hand: Rotate the drum slowly and listen for scraping. If noise is present at a specific point, a foreign object may be trapped.
• Access heater opening (front-load): Removing the heater can sometimes allow retrieval of trapped objects from the tub bottom.
• Spider/pulley issues: If the drum wobbles or the rear pulley is loose, the drum support spider may be cracked, requiring tub and drum replacement.
