Possible Causes

Drum overloaded or jammed by foreign object, Seized drum bearings, Failed drive motor, Binding between tub and cabinet due to suspension failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the washer before attempting to free the drum or access internal parts.

  • Reduce load: Remove some items from the drum and try a spin-only cycle. Overloading can trigger motor overload faults.
  • Check drum rotation: With the washer unplugged, rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly. Grinding, stiffness, or locking indicates mechanical binding.
  • Inspect for foreign objects: Look between the drum and door boot for items like coins, bra wires, or screws. Remove any obstructions.
  • Check suspension: Inspect shocks (front-load) or suspension rods (top-load) for broken mounts or severe sagging that could cause the tub to rub the cabinet.
  • Access motor and belt: Remove the rear panel. Check the drive belt for damage or misalignment. Spin the motor pulley by hand; it should turn freely.
  • Replace failed components: If the motor is seized or bearings are noisy and stiff, replace the drive motor. If the drum bearings are failing, the rear tub assembly may need replacement.
