Possible Causes
Partially blocked drain pump filter, Debris in pump impeller, Restricted house standpipe or drain hose, Weak drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the washer and have towels ready.
- Clean filter: Open the drain filter access (if equipped), drain water, and remove the filter. Clean thoroughly and reinstall.
- Inspect impeller: Shine a light into the pump housing and check the impeller for strings, hair, or small objects. Remove any obstructions.
- Check drain hose: Ensure the drain hose is not kinked and that the end is not inserted too far into the standpipe, which can cause siphoning or restriction.
- Verify house drain: Run water into the standpipe from a sink or bucket to ensure it drains freely. A slow house drain can cause E58-like symptoms.
- Replace pump if weak: If the pump runs but is noisy, hot, or fails to move water effectively even when clear, replace the GE drain pump.
