Possible Causes
Failed mode shifter not engaging agitate, Worn agitator coupling or spline, Broken agitator shaft, Control not energizing agitate winding
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the washer.
- Check agitator movement: Try to move the agitator back and forth by hand. Excessive free play suggests a worn coupling.
- Remove agitator: Pull off the fabric softener cap, remove the bolt, and lift the agitator. Inspect the coupling and splines; replace worn parts with GE-specific components.
- Inspect mode shifter: Access the bottom of the washer and check the mode shifter/actuator. Replace if it does not shift properly between agitate and spin.
