Possible Causes
Defective Start/Pause button on UI, Child lock (Control Lock) enabled, Door or lid not detected as closed, Failed user interface board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the washer before removing the control panel.
- Check control lock: Look for a lock icon on the display. Disable Control Lock per the user manual (often by holding a specific button for 3–5 seconds).
- Verify door/lid closed: Ensure the door or lid is fully closed and the strike is intact.
- Try different cycles: Select another cycle and press Start to rule out a specific program glitch.
- Inspect UI: If some buttons work but Start does not, the UI membrane or board may be faulty. Remove the control panel and inspect the ribbon cable and board for damage.
- Replace UI: Install a new GE user interface/control panel assembly if the Start button circuit is defective.
