Possible Causes

Failed heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose or burned heater wiring, Defective main control PCB heater relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer and allow it to cool before accessing internal components.

  • Access the heater: On many Gram front-load washers, the heater is located at the bottom of the tub, accessible from the rear panel. Remove the back cover to expose the heater terminals and NTC sensor.
  • Visual inspection: Look for burned connectors, melted insulation, or signs of water leakage around the heater gasket.
  • Test the heater element: Disconnect the heater wires. Use a multimeter set to resistance and measure across the heater terminals. A typical reading is between 20–40 Ω. Infinite resistance indicates a failed element.
  • Check the NTC sensor: The NTC is usually clipped into the heater bracket. Measure its resistance at room temperature (often 5–20 kΩ depending on model). If it reads open or shorted, replace it.
  • Inspect wiring: Ensure all connectors are tight and free of corrosion. Repair or replace any burned wiring.
  • Control board: If heater and NTC test good but E05 persists, the main control PCB heater relay or triac may be defective. This repair is best handled by a qualified technician.

Note: Do not run the washer with the heater disconnected; it may cause further errors or damage.
