Possible Causes
Worn shock absorbers, Broken or detached suspension springs, Loose drum counterweights, Worn drum bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the washer before accessing internal components.
- Check leveling: Ensure the Gram washer is level and stable. Adjust the feet so the machine does not rock.
- Inspect shocks: Remove rear or front panel and inspect the shock absorbers attached to the tub. If they are loose, leaking oil, or compress too easily, replace them in pairs.
- Check springs and weights: Look at the top suspension springs and concrete or cast-iron counterweights. Tighten any loose bolts and replace broken springs.
- Bearings: Spin the drum by hand. A rough, grinding feel or loud rumble indicates worn bearings, which typically require tub disassembly and professional replacement.
Do not continue high-speed spins if the machine is violently banging; this can cause structural damage.
