Possible Causes
Foreign object trapped between drum and tub, Seized drum bearings, Jammed motor or pulley, Drive belt off or tangled
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. Do not force the drum if it is jammed; you may cause more damage.
- 1. Check drum rotation: Try to turn the drum by hand from the front. If it is locked or very stiff, suspect an obstruction or bearing failure.
- 2. Inspect for foreign objects: Shine a torch through the drum holes and around the door seal for bra wires, coins, or screws. Gently move the drum to see if anything catches.
- 3. Access underside/rear: Remove the rear panel. Check the drive belt for tangling or being off the pulley. Remove the belt and see if the motor shaft spins freely by hand.
- 4. Check bearings: With the belt removed, spin the drum pulley by hand. Roughness, grinding, or side play indicates bearing failure.
- 5. Remove obstruction: If a foreign object is visible between drum and tub, it may be retrieved via the heater opening or sump hose opening. Remove the heater or sump hose carefully and extract the item.
- 6. Bearing or motor issues: If bearings are seized or the motor is jammed, these are major repairs. Bearing replacement involves stripping the tub and is usually a job for an experienced technician.
