Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Blocked drain hose or standpipe, Failed drain pump, Faulty pressure switch not detecting empty tub
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the washer. Keep towels and a shallow tray ready for water spillage.
F05 is one of the most common Indesit errors and usually relates to drainage.
- Clean pump filter: Open the lower front access flap. Place a tray under the pump filter cap. Slowly unscrew the cap to let water drain. Remove the filter and clear coins, lint, buttons, or other debris. Check the pump impeller for obstructions and ensure it spins freely.
- Check drain hose: Inspect the external drain hose for kinks or blockages. Detach from the standpipe or sink trap and flush through with water.
- Test pump operation: With the filter removed, briefly power the machine (if safe) and select a drain program to see if the pump impeller turns. If it hums but does not spin, or is silent, the pump may be faulty.
- Inspect internal hoses: If accessible, check the sump hose from the tub to the pump for socks or debris. Remove and clean if necessary.
- Pressure switch check: If the tub is empty but F05 persists, the pressure switch may still be indicating water present. Inspect and clean the pressure hose and chamber as described for F04.
Note: If the pump coil tests open-circuit with a multimeter or shows signs of burning, replace the drain pump assembly. If all mechanical parts are clear and F05 remains, the main PCB may not be driving the pump correctly and professional diagnosis is advised.
