Possible Causes
Slipping or jammed drive belt, Foreign object trapped between drum and tub, Shorted motor windings, Burnt wiring or connector on heater or motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Immediately switch off and unplug the washer. Do not continue to operate until the cause is identified and corrected.
- Inspect belt and pulleys: Remove the rear panel and check if the belt is frayed, melted, or slipping. Replace if damaged and ensure pulleys turn freely.
- Check for obstructions: Look through the drum holes for bra wires or other objects scraping the tub. Remove via the sump hose or heater opening if necessary.
- Examine wiring: Inspect wiring at the motor, heater, and pump for burnt insulation or melted connectors. Replace damaged harnesses and connectors.
- Motor check: If the smell came from the motor area and the motor is very hot, it may be failing. Further electrical testing is required.
Because burning smells indicate potential fire risk, if you cannot clearly identify and fix the issue, have the machine inspected by a professional.
