Possible Causes
Loose tachometer on motor shaft, Broken tachometer magnet, Open or shorted tachometer coil, Wiring fault between tachometer and control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before accessing the motor and rotating components.
Steps to check and correct:
- Access the motor: Remove the rear panel and take off the drive belt to expose the motor and tachometer assembly.
- Inspect tachometer: On IPSO motors, the tachometer is usually a small coil and magnet assembly at the rear of the motor. Ensure it is firmly attached and that the magnet is not cracked or missing.
- Test coil resistance: Disconnect the tachometer connector and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to IPSO specs. An open circuit indicates a failed tachometer.
- Check wiring harness: Trace the tachometer wires back to the control board, looking for chafing or broken conductors.
- Reassemble and test: After securing or replacing the tachometer, refit the belt and panels, then run a spin test. If E16 persists with a good tachometer and wiring, the control board's speed sensing circuit may be defective.
