Washer makes loud rumbling or roaring noise during spin

Safety first: Unplug the washer. Spinning components can cause injury; never work on a running machine.

Steps to check and correct:

• Spin drum by hand: With the door open, rotate the drum. A rough, grinding feel or loud rumble indicates bearing wear.
• Check for play: Lift the drum up and down at the front. Excessive movement suggests failed bearings or spider.
• Inspect from rear: Remove the rear panel and inspect the drum pulley and bearing area for rust streaks or water marks.
• Replace bearing kit: On most IPSO models, this requires removing the drum assembly, splitting the outer tub, pressing out old bearings and seal, and installing a new IPSO bearing kit and seal. This is a major repair.
• Consider professional service: Due to the complexity and need for special tools, bearing replacement is often best performed by an experienced IPSO technician.
