Possible Causes

Failed heating element, stuck heater relay on control board, open high-limit thermostat, wiring fault in heater circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Disconnect power. The heater area can be sharp and may retain heat after use.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Access heater: Remove the rear panel. The heater is usually mounted in the lower portion of the outer tub with two terminals and a center ground.
  • Test element: Disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance across the heater terminals. Typical values are 10–30 Ω (check your model spec). Infinite resistance indicates an open heater.
  • Check for ground fault: Measure resistance from each heater terminal to ground. There should be no continuity (OL). Any reading indicates a shorted element.
  • Inspect wiring and thermostat: Trace the heater wiring through any inline thermostats or thermal fuses. Test each for continuity.
  • Control relay: If the heater and wiring test good, the heater relay on the main control may be stuck or failed. Visual inspection may show burnt spots.

When to replace: Replace the heating element if open or shorted. Replace any open thermostats. If all components test good, the main control board may need replacement.
