Possible Causes
Failed heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose heater wiring, Scale buildup on heater causing overheat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer and ensure the tub is cool before working near the heater. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
- Run a cold cycle test: Select a cold-only program. If the washer completes without E8, the issue is likely with the heating circuit.
- Access heater terminals: Remove the rear panel to locate the heater at the bottom of the tub. Inspect wiring connectors for burning or looseness and reseat them.
- Test heater resistance: Disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit or very low resistance indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- Check NTC sensor: Many Little Swan heaters include an NTC probe. Measure its resistance at room temperature and compare to specifications. Replace if out of range or shorted.
- Descale if necessary: Heavy limescale on the heater can cause overheating. When replacing the heater, inspect and clean the heater port and consider running periodic descaling cycles.
