Washer stops mid-cycle, will not drain, display shows F02 or F2, water remains in drum.

Safety first: Unplug the washer and have towels or a shallow pan ready; water will spill when opening the pump filter.

Step-by-step:

• Check drain hose: Ensure the drain hose is not kinked, crushed, or inserted too far into the standpipe (should be about 6–8 inches). Verify the standpipe or sink drain is not clogged.
• Access drain pump: On many Maytag front-loaders, remove the lower front access panel (3–4 screws along the bottom). The drain pump and filter are behind it.
• Clean pump filter: Place a pan under the pump. Slowly unscrew the pump clean-out cap to let water drain. Remove debris (coins, lint, socks, etc.) from the filter and pump cavity.
• Inspect impeller: Reach into the pump housing and gently spin the impeller. It should turn smoothly without wobbling or grinding. Remove any obstructions.
• Check wiring: Inspect the pump wiring harness and connector for burns, corrosion, or loose pins. Reseat the connector firmly.
• Test drain function: Reinstall the filter and panel, plug the washer back in, and run a drain/spin cycle. Listen for the pump running and watch the drain hose for strong flow.
• Replace pump if needed: If the pump hums but does not move water, or is silent with proper voltage present (technician test), replace the drain pump assembly with the correct Maytag part.

Note: Repeated F02 errors after cleaning usually indicate a weak or failing pump motor.
