Washer produces strong sewage or stagnant water smell

Safety first: Unplug the washer and have towels ready.

• Clean pump filter: Open the lower service flap, drain residual water, and remove and clean the pump filter thoroughly.
• Flush drain hose: Disconnect the drain hose from the standpipe or sink trap and flush with hot water.
• Check household plumbing: Ensure the standpipe or sink trap is not blocked and has a proper water seal to prevent sewer gas.
• Run hot maintenance cycle: Run an empty hot wash with machine cleaner.
