Possible Causes

Washer overloaded with clothes, Load not distributed evenly in basket, Suspension rods worn or weak, Basket not seated correctly on drive hub

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the washer before reaching inside the drum. Do not bypass the lid lock while the machine is powered.

This code is common on Roper top-load washers with electronic controls (Whirlpool-built). It indicates the control detected an off-balance or overloaded condition.

  • Step 1 – Remove excess laundry: Open the lid, remove several heavy items (towels, jeans, blankets). Try to keep the load below 3/4 of the basket height.
  • Step 2 – Redistribute the load: Spread items evenly around the basket. Avoid wrapping large items around the agitator or impeller.
  • Step 3 – Check washer level: Use a bubble level on the top panel. Adjust the leveling feet so the washer is stable and does not rock. Lock the feet in place.
  • Step 4 – Inspect suspension rods (top-load models): With power disconnected, push down on the basket and release. It should bounce once and stop. If it continues to bounce or feels loose, the suspension rods may be worn and should be replaced as a set.
  • Step 5 – Reset and test: Plug the washer back in, clear the code by pressing Power to cancel, then start a Rinse & Spin with a small, balanced load.

If the code returns with a small, balanced load, further diagnosis of the suspension system or control board is recommended.
