Possible Causes
Load too heavy for motor capacity, Items tangled around agitator or impeller, Drive hub worn causing drag, Motor capacitor weak or failing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the washer before inspecting under the unit or removing panels.
- Step 1 – Reduce load size: Remove some items, especially heavy absorbent fabrics (blankets, comforters, rugs). Roper top-loaders are not designed for very large single bulky items.
- Step 2 – Untangle items: Spread clothes evenly around the basket and avoid wrapping them tightly around the agitator or impeller.
- Step 3 – Check for basket drag: With the washer unplugged and empty, spin the basket by hand. It should rotate freely with minimal resistance. Grinding or stiffness may indicate a worn drive hub or gearcase issue.
- Step 4 – Inspect drive hub (impeller models): Remove the wash plate/impeller and inspect the plastic drive hub splines for wear or stripping. Replace if worn.
- Step 5 – Test with a small load: Run a normal cycle with a small, light load. If F0E3 does not appear, the issue was likely overloading.
If the code appears even with small loads, the motor, capacitor, or control board may require professional diagnosis.
