Possible Causes
Failed thermistor, Loose or corroded thermistor connector, Broken wiring harness to thermistor, Control board temperature circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the washer and shut off water supply before servicing. Allow any hot water to cool.
- Step 1 – Locate thermistor: On Roper front-load or some high-efficiency top-load models, the thermistor is typically mounted near the heater or in the tub outlet area.
- Step 2 – Inspect wiring: Check the thermistor connector and wiring for damage or corrosion. Reseat the connector.
- Step 3 – Basic resistance check (advanced): With a multimeter, measure thermistor resistance at room temperature and compare to service specs. A reading far out of range indicates a bad sensor.
- Step 4 – Replace thermistor if faulty: Remove mounting screw or clip, swap in new thermistor, and reconnect wiring.
If the thermistor tests good and wiring is intact, the main control board may be at fault and should be evaluated by a technician.
