Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump filter or impeller, Obstructed drain hose, Failed drain pump motor, Foreign object in pump housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the washer before servicing the drain system. Have towels or a shallow pan ready for water spillage.
- Step 1 – Check drain hose: Inspect for kinks, clogs, or a hose pushed too far into the standpipe. Clear any obstructions.
- Step 2 – Access drain pump: On many Roper models, remove the front lower panel or tilt the washer to access the pump at the bottom.
- Step 3 – Clean pump and filter: Disconnect the pump inlet hose and check for coins, buttons, or debris. Spin the impeller by hand to ensure it moves freely.
- Step 4 – Test pump operation: After reassembly, run a Drain & Spin cycle and listen for the pump. If it hums but does not move water, or is silent, replace the pump.
