Possible Causes

Frequent cold washes, Detergent and fabric softener residue, Door or lid kept closed between cycles, Clogged drain or standing water in tub

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the washer before cleaning internal rubber parts. Avoid mixing cleaning chemicals.

  • Step 1 – Run a cleaning cycle: Use a washer cleaner tablet or 1 cup of white vinegar on the hottest, longest cycle with no clothes.
  • Step 2 – Clean door gasket (front-load) or tub rim (top-load): Wipe with a cloth and a mild bleach solution to remove visible mold and residue.
  • Step 3 – Leave door/lid open: After each use, leave the door or lid open to allow the interior to dry.
  • Step 4 – Clean dispenser: Remove and wash the dispenser drawer and housing to remove buildup.
