Safety first: Unplug the washer and keep towels or a shallow tray ready; water will spill when opening the filter.
Steps to check and address E03:
- Access the pump filter: Open the small service flap at the bottom front of the machine. Place a tray or towels underneath.
- Drain residual water: If equipped, pull out the emergency drain hose and empty water into a container. Then slowly unscrew the pump filter cap.
- Clean the filter: Remove lint, coins, buttons, and other debris from the filter and pump cavity. Check that the impeller turns freely by hand.
- Inspect the drain hose: Check the external drain hose for kinks or blockages. Detach from the standpipe or sink trap and flush with water if necessary.
- Test the pump: Refit the filter, plug in the washer, and select a drain or spin program. Listen for the pump running. If it hums but does not turn, or is silent, the pump may be defective.
- Replace the pump if needed: With power disconnected, remove the lower front panel or rear panel (model dependent), disconnect the pump wiring and hoses, and install a new Siemens-compatible drain pump.
When to call a technician: If the pump and hoses are clear but E03 persists, there may be a wiring or control board issue that requires professional testing.
