Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump filter or impeller, Blocked drain hose, Failed drain pump motor, Foreign object in tub-to-pump hose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the washer. Water may spill when hoses are removed; have towels and a shallow pan ready.
- 1. Check drain hose: Ensure the drain hose is not kinked or crushed behind the washer. Verify the standpipe is not blocked.
- 2. Access pump: Remove the lower front panel or rear panel (model dependent) to reach the drain pump. Place a pan under the pump area.
- 3. Clear obstructions: Remove the tub-to-pump hose and inspect for socks, coins, or debris. Check the pump inlet and outlet ports. Remove any blockage.
- 4. Inspect pump impeller: Look for broken blades or items wrapped around the impeller. If damaged or seized, replace the drain pump.
- 5. Test pump electrically: With the washer unplugged, disconnect the pump and measure coil resistance. An open circuit or short indicates a bad pump.
- 6. Reassemble and test: Reinstall hoses securely with clamps, restore power, and run a drain/spin cycle to confirm proper operation.
