Possible Causes
Failed drive motor, Defective motor start capacitor (on capacitor-start models), Broken motor wiring harness, Faulty main control board relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the washer before accessing the motor or capacitor. Capacitors can hold a charge; discharge safely before handling.
- 1. Listen for motor: During agitation or spin, listen for humming or clicking. A hum without movement suggests a bad capacitor or seized motor.
- 2. Inspect wiring: Access the motor and check the harness for burns or loose connectors.
- 3. Test capacitor: Remove the start capacitor and test with a capacitance meter. Replace if out of specification or bulged.
- 4. Test motor windings: Use a multimeter to check for continuity. Replace the motor if windings are open or shorted.
- 5. Control board: If motor and capacitor are good but no voltage is sent to the motor, the control board may be faulty and require replacement.
