Possible Causes

Pressure chamber on tub clogged with detergent residue, Blocked pressure hose, Heavy limescale buildup in air trap, Restricted outlet from tub

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power and drain the machine before working underneath or at the side of the tub.

  • Locate air trap: On many Zanussi models, the pressure chamber (air trap) is a plastic fitting on the side of the outer tub where the pressure hose connects.
  • Remove and clean: Detach the hose and remove the air trap if possible. Rinse thoroughly under hot water, using a bottle brush to remove sludge and limescale.
  • Clean hose: Flush the pressure hose and ensure it is clear and flexible. Replace if hardened or cracked.
  • Reassemble securely: Refit the air trap and hose, ensuring airtight connections to restore accurate pressure sensing.

After cleaning, run a rinse and spin cycle to confirm normal operation. If E38 persists, the pressure sensor or control board may also be affected.
