Possible Causes

Faulty door lock mechanism, Jammed door latch, Control board not releasing lock, Wiring fault to lock

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the washer. Do not force the door open with excessive strength as this can damage the front panel.

  • Wait for delay: Many Zanussi models have a 1–2 minute delay before unlocking. Ensure you have waited long enough.
  • Use emergency release: Access the pump filter area; some models have a manual door release tab or cord near the filter. Pull gently to open the door.
  • Inspect and replace lock: Once open, remove the door seal band and access the lock. Replace the door lock assembly if it is heat-damaged or mechanically stuck.
  • Check PCB output: If a new lock does not resolve E42, the control board may not be sending the unlock signal and should be tested by a technician.
