Possible Causes
Failed glass lining due to age, Severely depleted anode rod, Excessive water pressure or thermal expansion, Corrosion at welded seams
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power or gas and close the cold water supply valve immediately to limit water damage.
- 1. Confirm source: Dry the area and inspect to ensure the leak is not from the drain valve, T&P valve, or plumbing connections above.
- 2. Check drain valve: If the leak is from the drain valve, try tightening the cap or replacing the valve.
- 3. Tank seam leak: If water seeps from the jacket seams or under the tank, the inner tank is compromised and cannot be repaired.
- 4. Replace heater: Arrange for replacement of the entire water heater. Consider installing an expansion tank and pressure-reducing valve if system pressure is high.
