Water Hammer / Thermal Expansion Noise
Loud banging or hammering noise in pipes when hot water is used.

Possible Causes
High water pressure, Lack of water hammer arrestors, Closed system without expansion tank, Rapid valve closure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No internal heater work is required, but always be cautious around hot pipes.
- Check pressure: Use a pressure gauge on a nearby faucet to measure static water pressure. If above 80 psi, install or adjust a pressure-reducing valve.
- Expansion tank: If the Alpha heater is on a closed system, ensure a properly sized thermal expansion tank is installed and charged to match house pressure.
- Hammer arrestors: Install water hammer arrestors near quick-closing valves (dishwasher, washing machine).
- Secure piping: Clamp loose pipes to framing to reduce movement.
If noise persists, consult a plumber to evaluate the plumbing system design.
