Possible Causes
Weak or dirty thermocouple, Insufficient pilot flame, Drafts blowing out pilot, Faulty gas control valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Follow Alpha lighting instructions exactly. If you smell gas, stop and ventilate the area.
- Clean pilot: Turn gas control to OFF and allow time for gas to dissipate. Remove the pilot assembly and clean the pilot orifice with compressed air.
- Check thermocouple: Ensure the thermocouple tip is properly positioned in the pilot flame and connections to the gas control are tight.
- Test thermocouple: With a multimeter, measure thermocouple output while heated; replace if output is below specification.
- Relight: Follow the Alpha lighting procedure. If the pilot still will not stay lit, the gas control valve may need replacement.
Gas valve replacement should be performed by a licensed gas technician.
