Possible Causes
Failed display board, Damaged keypad membrane, Loose ribbon cable between UI and main control, Moisture intrusion at control panel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing any control covers.
- 1. Inspect control panel: Check for signs of water drips from plumbing above the heater onto the control panel. Correct any leaks before proceeding.
- 2. Check ribbon cable: Remove the front control cover and locate the flat ribbon cable between the user interface board and the main control. Reseat both ends and inspect for cracks or damage.
- 3. Test buttons: With power restored, press each button and observe the display response. If some buttons do not respond or respond intermittently, the keypad membrane may be failing.
- 4. Dry moisture: If condensation or moisture is present, gently dry the area with a low-heat source and allow time for complete drying before retesting.
- 5. Replace UI board: If E09 persists and wiring is intact, replace the user interface/display board assembly according to the service manual.
