Possible Causes
Internal gas valve failure, Stuck modulation solenoid, Incorrect gas type setting, Control-to-valve communication error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Gas valve issues can cause fire or explosion. Turn off gas at the manual shutoff and disconnect power. Do not attempt internal valve repairs.
- 1. Verify gas type: Confirm the heater is configured for the correct gas type (natural gas or LP) and that the supply matches the rating plate. Using the wrong gas type can cause E14 and unsafe operation.
- 2. Check gas supply pressure: Have a qualified technician measure inlet gas pressure with a manometer while the heater and other appliances are operating. Low or fluctuating pressure can cause valve faults.
- 3. Inspect wiring harness: Ensure the multi-pin connector between the control board and gas valve is fully seated and undamaged.
- 4. Reset control: After verifying supply and wiring, reset the control per the manual and attempt operation.
- 5. Replace gas valve assembly: If E14 persists, the gas valve/modulation assembly is likely defective and must be replaced and leak-tested by a licensed gas technician.
