Possible Causes
Weak thermocouple or thermopile, Pilot flame not properly enveloping sensor, Loose thermocouple connection at gas control, Drafts blowing on pilot
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn gas control knob to OFF and wait several minutes before relighting.
- 1. Observe pilot flame: Flame should be steady and contact the thermocouple/thermopile tip. If small or lifting, clean the pilot orifice and ensure proper gas pressure.
- 2. Tighten connection: Snug the thermocouple nut at the gas control valve; do not overtighten.
- 3. Check for drafts: Ensure no strong drafts or fans are blowing on the heater.
- 4. Replace thermocouple/thermopile: If the pilot still will not stay lit, replace the thermocouple or thermopile assembly.
