Possible Causes

Closed manual gas shutoff valve, Air in gas line after service, Faulty piezo igniter or spark igniter, Clogged pilot orifice

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: If you smell gas, do not attempt to light the heater. Evacuate and contact your gas supplier.

  • 1. Verify gas supply: Ensure the manual gas shutoff valve near the heater is fully open (handle parallel to the pipe).
  • 2. Purge air: After gas service, air may be in the line. Follow the lighting instructions and attempt to light the pilot several times, allowing time between attempts.
  • 3. Check igniter: For piezo igniters, observe through the sight glass while pressing the igniter button; look for a spark. For electronic igniters, listen for clicking. Replace the igniter assembly if no spark is present.
  • 4. Clean pilot orifice: Shut off gas, remove the pilot tube, and clean the orifice with compressed air. Reassemble and test.
