Possible Causes
Scaled or partially blocked heat exchanger, Insufficient water flow through heater, Faulty high-limit temperature sensor, Circulation pump failure on indirect systems
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and power. Allow the unit to cool fully.
- Check water flow: Ensure inlet and outlet valves are fully open. Clean inlet filters and check that hot taps provide adequate flow.
- Inspect high-limit sensor: Locate the high-limit sensor on the heat exchanger. Check wiring and reset if it has a manual reset button (some models).
- Descale heat exchanger (advanced): If you have the proper equipment, isolate the heater and circulate a descaling solution through the heat exchanger following Ariston guidelines. Otherwise, have a professional perform chemical descaling.
- Check circulation pump (if present): On systems with a dedicated pump, verify that the pump runs and that there is no air lock.
Persistent E13 indicates serious overheating risk; have a qualified technician inspect the heat exchanger and safety devices.
