Possible Causes
Deteriorated flange gasket, loose flange bolts, corroded tank around flange, overpressure from faulty safety valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and close the cold water supply. Allow the water to cool before working. Be prepared for water spillage.
- Identify the leak source: dry the area and observe around the heating element flange, drain valve, and weld seams.
- If the leak is at the flange, drain the tank below flange level using the drain valve.
- Remove the flange bolts, extract the element/flange assembly, and clean the mating surfaces.
- Install a new genuine Atlantic flange gasket and reassemble, tightening bolts evenly in a cross pattern.
- Refill the tank, check for leaks, then restore power.
- If water seeps from the tank body or welds, the enamel tank is perforated and the entire Atlantic cylinder must be replaced; it is not repairable.
