Possible Causes

Element insulation breakdown to earth, water ingress in element terminal area, damaged wiring insulation, faulty control board triac or relay shorted

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker. Turn off power and lock out if possible.

  • Remove the access cover and visually inspect for signs of water leaks around the element flange and wiring.
  • With power OFF, disconnect the wires from the heating element and measure insulation resistance between each terminal and the metal flange using a megohmmeter. Low resistance indicates a faulty element that must be replaced.
  • Inspect all wiring for burn marks or damaged insulation; repair or replace as needed.
  • If the element and wiring are sound, the fault may be on the control board (shorted relay/triac). Replace the Atlantic control board if confirmed.
