Possible Causes
Leaking DHW heat exchanger, Loose union on inlet/outlet, Faulty safety valve discharging, Cracked internal pipe or manifold
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and close the cold water inlet immediately. Hot water leaks can cause scalding and electrical hazards.
- 1. Isolate and drain: Close the cold inlet and open a hot tap to relieve pressure. Place a tray under the heater.
- 2. Remove front cover: Carefully remove the cover and inspect for the leak source: joints, valves, or heat exchanger.
- 3. Tighten unions: Gently tighten any accessible compression or union fittings that are dripping. Do not overtighten.
- 4. Check safety valve: If water is coming from the discharge pipe, the DHW safety valve may be opening due to overpressure or failure. A technician should test and replace it if necessary.
- 5. Replace leaking components: If the secondary plate heat exchanger or internal manifolds are cracked or corroded, they must be replaced by a professional.
