Possible Causes

Water detected in base pan, Tripped leak sensor, Blocked condensate drain (condensing models), Faulty leak detection sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power and gas. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.

Steps to check:

  • Remove the lower front panel and inspect the base of the CTC water heater for standing water.
  • Locate the leak detection sensor or float switch in the base pan. Dry the area thoroughly with towels.
  • Clear any blockage in the condensate drain line and trap (for condensing gas models). Flush with water to ensure free flow.
  • Inspect for active leaks from fittings, the heat exchanger, or the tank. Repair or replace leaking components.
  • Once the area is dry and leaks are corrected, restore power. If E20 persists, replace the leak detection sensor.
