Possible Causes
Partially failed multi-element flange (one element open), scaled heating element reducing heat transfer, thermostat out of calibration, excessive hot water draw or undersized tank
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate power and allow the heater to cool before removing covers or flanges.
Steps:
- Verify that the thermostat setpoint is high enough (e.g., 55–60°C) and not accidentally turned down.
- Measure the actual hot water temperature at a tap after a full heat cycle. If much lower than setpoint, proceed with checks.
- With power OFF, test each heating element section on the flange (if multi-element) for correct resistance. Replace the flange if any section is open.
- Drain the tank partially and remove the flange to inspect for heavy limescale. Descale or replace the flange assembly if scale is thick.
- Replace the mechanical thermostat if it switches off prematurely or does not match the dial setting.
