Possible Causes

Incorrect wiring (single leg only, missing phase), Low line voltage under load, Wrong breaker configuration, Loose supply lugs at heater or panel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: This involves live electrical measurements. If you are not comfortable or qualified, contact an electrician.

  • Verify breaker and wiring: Confirm the EcoSmart heater is connected to the correct size double-pole breaker and that both hot legs are present.
  • Check terminal tightness: With power OFF, tighten the supply lugs at the heater and at the breaker panel to manufacturer torque specs.
  • Measure voltage: With a multimeter and appropriate PPE, measure voltage between the two hot legs at the heater’s input terminals. It should match the unit’s rated voltage (e.g., ~240 VAC). Also measure each hot leg to ground.
  • Correct wiring errors: If only one hot leg is present or voltage is significantly low, have an electrician correct the supply wiring or service the panel.
  • Retest: Once proper voltage is restored, cycle power to the heater and check if E10 clears.
