Possible Causes
Blown thermal fuse on heating module, Severe overheating due to dry firing (no water), Blocked flow causing localized hot spots, Defective high-limit control allowing overheat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power and allow the unit to cool completely. Do not bypass safety devices.
- Check for dry firing causes: Confirm that the unit always has water in it before power is applied. Ensure inlet valves are not being closed while power remains on.
- Inspect thermal cutoff: Locate the thermal fuse / cutoff on or near the heating module. Test it with a multimeter for continuity. An open reading indicates it has blown and must be replaced.
- Investigate root cause: If the thermal fuse is open, look for scale buildup, blocked flow, or failed controls that could have caused overheating. Address these issues (descale, repair flow, replace high-limit) before installing a new fuse.
- Replace with OEM part only: Install the exact EcoSmart-rated thermal cutoff. Never bypass or substitute with an incorrect rating.
- Test operation: Restore power and verify normal heating without error.
