Possible Causes
Air in water lines causing erratic flow sensor readings, Loose flow sensor wiring, Scale on flow turbine, Electrical noise from nearby equipment interfering with sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power before opening the unit; water-side bleeding can be done with power off.
- Bleed air from system: Open several hot water taps fully to purge air from the lines. Let water run until flow is steady.
- Inspect flow sensor wiring: Inside the unit, check that the flow sensor harness is secure and routed away from high-voltage conductors where possible.
- Clean flow sensor: Remove and clean the flow sensor turbine of any scale or debris using vinegar and a soft brush.
- Check for external interference: Ensure high-current devices (large motors, welders) are not sharing the same circuit or causing severe electrical noise.
- Test operation: Restore power and run hot water. If E17 persists, replace the flow sensor assembly.
