Possible Causes
Tripped circuit breaker, Loose or burned supply connections at heater, Failed internal fuse on control board, Open disconnect switch or GFCI upstream
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Use caution when working around electrical panels. If unsure, contact an electrician.
- Check breaker: Locate the dedicated breaker for the EcoSmart heater in your panel. Reset it fully OFF then ON. If it trips again immediately, do not force it; there may be a short.
- Verify power at unit: With a non-contact voltage tester (or multimeter if qualified), check for voltage at the heater’s input terminals. If no power is present, the issue is upstream (breaker, wiring, disconnect).
- Inspect connections: With power OFF, remove the front cover and inspect the main power lugs for loose screws, discoloration, or melted insulation. Tighten loose lugs and repair damaged wiring.
- Internal fuse: Some EcoSmart models include an internal low-voltage fuse on the control board. Check and replace only with the same type and rating if blown.
- Test display: Restore power. If the display remains dead despite confirmed voltage at the input, the control board is likely failed and should be replaced.
