Possible Causes
Deteriorated rubber gasket on element flange, Loose flange bolts, Corroded flange surface on tank
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker and close the cold water inlet. Allow the water to cool before working. Risk of scalding.
Steps:
- Confirm leak source: Remove the lower plastic cover and inspect around the heating element flange. Look for water trails or rust marks.
- Tighten bolts: Gently tighten the flange nuts in a criss-cross pattern. Do not overtighten; this can deform the gasket.
- Replace gasket if needed: If tightening does not stop the leak, drain the tank fully. Remove the flange and old gasket. Clean the mating surfaces on the tank and flange.
- Install new gasket: Fit a new Eldom-compatible flange gasket, reinstall the flange, and tighten evenly.
- Refill and check: Refill the tank, bleed air, and check for leaks before restoring power.
