Possible Causes
Faulty mechanical thermostat contacts welded closed, NTC sensor reading too low temperature, Miswired thermostat bypassing safety
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power immediately to prevent scalding and tank damage.
Steps:
- Check thermostat setting: Ensure the thermostat is not set to maximum unnecessarily. Adjust to a safe temperature (50–60°C).
- Test thermostat: Disconnect power, remove wires from the thermostat, and check continuity. If it remains closed even when the tank is clearly hot, replace it.
- Inspect wiring: Verify that the thermostat is wired in series with the element as per Eldom diagram. Correct any bypassed safety devices.
- Check NTC sensor: On digital models, test the NTC resistance and replace if it reads incorrectly low (causing overheating).
Consider installing a thermostatic mixing valve on the hot outlet to limit tap temperature.
