Fitting / Connection Leak
Water heater leaks from top or side connections
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Loose hot or cold water unions, Deteriorated Teflon tape or sealant, Cracked plastic fittings, Over-tightened or misaligned nipples
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power and close the cold water supply. Relieve pressure by opening a hot water tap.
Steps:
- 1. Tighten connections: Use appropriate wrenches to snug hot and cold unions and nipples. Do not overtighten plastic parts.
- 2. Reseal threads: If a threaded joint continues to leak, disassemble, clean threads, apply new Teflon tape or approved sealant, and reassemble.
- 3. Replace cracked fittings: Inspect plastic or brass fittings for cracks and replace with compatible Electrolux or approved parts.
- 4. Test under pressure: Open water supply and check for leaks before restoring power.
Note: Always ensure the tank is full and free of leaks before energizing the heater.
