Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, seized fan blade, fan harness disconnected, control board fan driver failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker and verify power is off.

Steps to address F6:

  • Access the fan: Remove the upper cover to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
  • Inspect fan blades: Check for debris, insulation, or plastic wrap obstructing the fan. Spin the blade by hand; it should move freely without grinding.
  • Check wiring: Ensure the fan motor connector is fully seated on the control board and at the motor. Look for burned or loose terminals.
  • Test voltage: With power restored and extreme caution, measure voltage at the fan motor when the unit calls for fan operation (refer to GE service manual for expected voltage). If voltage is present but the fan does not run, the motor is bad.
  • Replace fan motor: Turn power back off, remove mounting screws, transfer the fan blade to the new motor if needed, and install the replacement motor.
  • Control board check: If no voltage is present at the fan when commanded on, the control board may be defective.

Warning: Keep hands and tools clear of moving fan blades when testing with power applied.
