Possible Causes
Corroded inner tank, Leaking drain valve, Condensation misdiagnosed as leak, Failed gaskets at elements
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power or gas and close the cold water supply. Hot water and surfaces can cause burns.
- Identify source: Dry the area and inspect the drain valve, element gaskets, and seams. Place paper towels to trace the leak path.
- Check drain valve: Ensure the Giant drain valve is fully closed. If it drips, attach a hose cap or replace the valve.
- Inspect element gaskets: Look for water seeping from around the heating element flanges. Tighten screws slightly or replace gaskets if needed.
- Tank leak: If water is seeping from the jacket or under the tank, the inner tank is likely ruptured. The heater must be replaced; it is not repairable.
- Condensation: In humid conditions, some water may be condensation. If it dries up when the heater is hot, no repair is needed.
